The list that includes Madonna-Britney Spears and Meryl Streep-Sandra Bullock either for publicity or sheer joy of experiencing a kiss with a person of the same gender, now has another couple as members: Mariska Hargitay and Ali Wentworth. Rather than just a hug or a peck on the cheeks, these two ladies who happen to be best friends, and to the best of my knowledge not bisexuals (they are both married to men), decided to use a totally new way of greeting.
I am still trying to figure out what it means as far as our pop culture goes but I am sincerely hoping that this will start a new trend and it will be perfectly acceptable for girlfriends to kiss each other on the lips in public while greeting each other. And as far as men are concerned, it is already pretty common in the the Middle East, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the trend spread worldwide.
