Entering
the room Kaneko was gaga. "You see him? What a man..." Kaneko was putting on her
skimpiest bikini as she explained the plan. "This is what we've been waiting for all summer, Sachiko, at least I have. I just wanna find out what it's like and go back to school and tell our friends about
the real thing. And not making up crap."
"So what about me? Am I just gonna stand there and watch? You're gross!" Sachiko was losing her cool. "Don't be so baby-ish," Kaneko responded. "Just play along. You'll get yours. I won't hog the dude. And try to remember, please, we're supposed to be eighteen and so act it. If you're gonna chicken out let me know, so I can make up some story." Kaneko gave the ultimatum.
Sachiko hesitated. It was all too fast. In her dream it was okay that way. At least she was alone with him. She was tempted in a way, but in the end she decided not to go. "Just tell him my
makeup was screwed up or something. I don't care. Tell your friend Uta anything, Kaneko. I'd rather not share." "Last chance," Kaneko replied, "I'm going whether you want to or not." "Then go! Go get laid!" Sachiko saw Kaneko exit. Her best friend didn't look back.
Kaneko returned only twenty minutes later, and when she confronted Sachiko, who was watching
television, had nothing whatsoever to say. Sachiko checked the time on the table clock. "Wow, Kaneko, you are fast!" Kaneko didn't bother to respond. "Well… was it nice..." Sachiko asked her. Still no response. Sachiko could see that Kaneko didn't want to talk. Rather than needle her best friend, Sachiko decided to let it go. A few minutes later Kaneko had changed into
jeans and a tee. "Wanna go for a walk around?" Kaneko asked. Sachiko smiled and said "sure, we might as well; tomorrow we have to pack and go home."

Kaneko asked would it be all right to
get some money from Sachiko's dad so they could get some fast food on their own and have
dinner by themselves. Everyone was agreeable, so the two girls walked into the
small tourist town nearby, wandered around gift shops, looked at restored homes from by-gone days, and finally went into a
burger and fries restaurant. They got a booth and ordered. They talked about going home and starting school. Sachiko finally saw a chance and asked Kaneko what she would tell her friends about
sex when they got back home. Kaneko looked around the restaurant, thinking just how to answer. Thirty seconds must have gone by before she responded. "I'm going to tell them the truth Kaneko. I'll just have to say that we must be at a difficult time for girls. The guys our age know what they want, but they're still too young or something, and maybe even afraid to try. And the
older guys think they know what they want, but they must be too old already, cuz in the end they turn out to be
impotent. And it must be sadder for the
older guys, having to deal with the embarrassment; the
younger guys still can dream." Sachiko and Kaneko didn't laugh. It wasn't funny at all for them. It was just
confusing. |
