Natural skin using lemons
Recipes that you can make at home

We have been discussing how lemons (that you can basically buy in a grocery store) can be excellent resources for all kinds of skin care treatments.  In the fist part of the article we discussed what lemons can do for your skin and in the second part we looked at some simple recipes that almost anyone can make at home for use as cosmetics or for personal care.  Here we discuss a few more home made recipes for personal care use.

Lemon photoHighlights

Lemon can help you to create the highlight effect during summer. Lemons dry out the hair so be careful not use this recipe too often. Prepare ahead of time a cup with warm water and lemon juice (about one lemon should be enough but it depends how long your hair is). Application is very easy: after shampooing, apply the lemon water on the hair and leave it on.

Nail problems

If your nails have stains or are weak, you may apply some lemon juice mixed with water, after washing them. Leave it on for a few minutes. If you do it frequently, it will help your nails look healthier and shiny.  Works great when you do not want to go to a nail salon.

Lemon essential oil

This is one of the most commonly used essential oils. It is used in home fragrance, bath products, perfumes and cosmetics. In clinical aromatherapy, it is considered as powerful oil. It is extracted from the lemon peel. Lemon essential oil is believed to have several uses, for instance, anti-depressant, antiseptic, digestive, germicide, bactericide, carminative, diuretic, hepatic, depurative, anti-rheumatic, stimulant, and tonic.

Uses of lemon essential oil

Lemon essential oil has many uses. Generally it is used in conjunction with other oils to create more powerful mixes or blends. It is used for oily skin, freckles, and weak nails, to balance the nervous system, eliminate toxins, to treat dandruff, to reduce cellulite, etc. In aromatherapy, it is believed that it helps to uplift and energize. So it is a good oil to use in the morning or when we are feeling down. Its uplifting effect also helps people suffering from mild depression and sadness. It can also be used in soaps, exfoliants, body lotions, oil burners, and compresses, among others.

Characteristics

In aromatherapy lemon essential oil is considered a high note, meaning if it is mixed with other oils the first thing you will smell is the lemon. It combines well with lavender, pine, eucalyptus, fennel and juniper.

Do you still want just lemonade?
