Acne treatment for adult men
Even basic care will go a long way in reducing acne scars
By Don Martinez
Editor's note: While this article was written for men, and even more specifically for
metrosexuals, the discussion applies to women as well.
| I write about acne because I used to have it and till I met my wife, I did not bother to do anything about it. My wife comes from the spa industry and knows a lot about skin care but I was just one happy guy basically looking into the mirror once a day while shaving. She was the one who made me realize how much better I could look by just taking some simple steps. Or in other words, I could not have become a
metrosexual without taking care of my acne. |

So what is acne?
Acne is a skin disorder resulting from the action of hormones on the skin's oil glands. Eventually it results in plugged pores, and as most guys who work around the house know, anything plugged is a major problem. I hear that million of Americans suffer from acne. Well, shame on us since we not only can do something about it, we should have done something long time ago. Now let me say this: acne is not a serious disease, so don't rush to a doctor right now and spend a million bucks, but it is still a good idea to take care of it. Trust me, it will make you feel better about yourself, and hopefully, help you attract hot girls (Related article:

I do not want to go into the technical details of how acne happens (my wife gave me detailed explanations at one time, along with charts that she drew on the kitchen table: let me tell you, the details are boring and dull).

As some of you are reading it you must be wondering why you have it and some of your other friends don't. Well, doctors have very little clue. Some of it has to do with hormones. For those of us who have lots of hormones we tend to suffer more (if that is the case, I don't feel that bad that I have acne: at least it is sending the right message to women out there). The other reason is heredity. So chances are that your parents may have given it to you as a gift before you were born. The third reason is not taking care of your skin. If you are my type, you probably never bothered to read the label on a shave lotion or face cream or any other stuff you applied on your face. And you probably bought the cheapest stuff too so that you could save the money for beer. Well, I learned later on that all these greasy products were attracting all kinds of junk and blocking all the pores in my skin. Plus, I was too rough with my skin. I never realized that being a man does not mean that we should treat our skins like the bathroom tiles. (Related

So what can you do now?
-
You should go to a doctor for serious acne problems. He or she will determine how serious the problem is and decide the appropriate acne medication. You might also get a cream for acne scars. But you can do a lot of other things without much effort:
-
Clean your skin gently (remember 'gently' is the operative word here). Wash it with a mild
cleanser (Recommended product:
Sothys Desquacreme - Deep Pore
Cleanser), once in the morning and once in the evening and after heavy exercise. It is also important that you thoroughly rinse your skin after washing it. Astringents are not recommended unless the skin is very oily, and then they should be used only on oily spots. Doctors also recommend that patients regularly
shampoo their hair. Those with oily hair may want to shampoo it every day.
-
Avoid frequent handling of your skin. People who squeeze, pinch, or pick their blemishes risk developing scars or dark blotches. You should avoid rubbing and touching your skin lesions.
-
Shave carefully. You can test both electric and safety razors to see which is more comfortable. If you use a safety razor you should use a sharp blade and soften your beard thoroughly with soap and water before applying shaving cream (Recommended product:
DDF Medicated Shave Cream). Nicking blemishes can be avoided by shaving lightly and only when necessary.
-
Avoid a sunburn or suntan. Many of the medicines used to treat acne can make a person more prone to sunburn.

Choose cosmetics carefully. People being treated for acne often need to change some of the cosmetics they
use.
