The
Swan: Plastic surgery at its best
Beauty
tips from the producer Nely Galan
As we know Fox Channel had one of the most controversial reality TV shows, The Swan, and now it is back. I personally liked parts of The Swan because it demonstrated how anything is possible (with the help of plastic surgery, exercising, dieting, and
makeover of both body, mind, and style). But what I did not like was how the producers tried to dramatize the whole thing. They made the stories of women seem so sad and the results too good. So what I do is to watch the first 10-15 minutes to get a background of the women and then the final 10-15 minutes to see the result. Everything else in between is soap opera style drama that no person with a functioning brain should watch.

Having said that, it is still an interesting program created by a remarkable woman Nely Galan. Nely Galan is a life coach in The Swan and a highly successful TV producer. Nely is probably one of the most powerful Hispanic women in Hollywood at this time. She said in a recent interview that she got the inspiration for The Swan because she herself felt as the ugly
duckling at a certain point in her life. She became a single mother and broke up with the baby’s father. At that low point of her life she said to herself, “I need a
life coach, a personal fitness expert, a nutritionist, a
face
lift, etc.” Years later when reality TV became so popular, she decided to create The Swan capturing some of the thoughts that she had.

What I like about Nely is her beauty advice for women (and some of it maybe applicable to men as well):
- Go to the dentist.
Fix your teeth before you do anything else. And take care of your health at the beginning of the year, so make appointment with all your doctors.

- Keep a diary. Write your feelings on a daily basis. It is a great way to talk to yourself and get your feelings out.
- Make a weekly date with yourself. At least one hour each week, do something just for yourself, such as
massage, or go to church, etc.
- Wear a girdle. Yeah, a girdle. She said that she got the tip from plastic surgeons, and since she started to use it, she has gone down two sizes. Girdles or cinchers - they work.

- Use a 50 SPF sun protector. Most doctors recommend 15, but Nely goes all the way to 50 although her
skin color is not the lightest.
