Dukan Diet review

Does it work for weight loss?

Summary:  With the great body of Kate Middleton, everyone wants to know if they can become like her following the French Dukan diet.  In the article below, I list the major elements of the diet and provide my input on what to expect and if it is worth trying it.

With Kate Middleton being in the spotlight and a lot of focus on her fitness and slim body, everyone is intrigued by the so-called Dukan diet. My research and experience shows that it is not a specific diet or exercise routine that will turn you into a skinny girl overnight. A perfect body is a result of a lifestyle that includes regular workout, consumption of calories in line with one's activity level, plenty of sleep, and a happy attitude.

Having said that it is still a good idea to review the major elements of the Dukan Diet that came out of France (developed by Dr Pierre Dukan).

Step 1: ATTACK means that you attack the weight loss problem by going on a protein-rich diet for 2-7 days. In other words, cut back carbs completely. Obviously proteins are better than plain carbs and maybe fine to do for a short period of time, but long term you still want a more balanced diet.

Step 2: CRUISE means that now you follow a more normal eating pattern with both proteins and vegetables, but still more proteins than veggies.
Step 3: CONSOLIDATION phase lasts ten-days and now you can return to normal eating gradually with two good meals and snacks in the interim with healthy options. It is now fine to add carbs.

Step 4: Effort is calorie control because once you achieve your desired weight, a lot of people let it go and the weight piles back. Remember that skinny people burn even fewer calories so you will need to lower your calorie intake and watch your weight carefully. As soon as the scale inches back up, it is time to take action.

 

The conclusion is that while French women are generally skinny because they eat more mindfully and are very good at portion control, in the end you need to find your own comfort level at what you want to eat and how much. If you develop a healthier relationship with food, you will be able to enjoy eating without overeating and adding pounds.
