What I love about me?

Positive body image reinforcement

Summary:  There are so many women that hate their bodies and feel miserable looking at themselves in the mirror. However, there is always something great about one's physique. I recently heard from such a woman who simply did not like anything that she saw. So first I asked her list everything that she hated (which apparently was easy for her) but once her frustrations were out, I asked her list what she liked about her body and her life in general. I asked her to think and ask her friends and family members to help out. This is what she came up with. The point of this exercise is to realize that once you look for positive elements in your life, you will find a lot, often more than the negatives.

What I like about me

I like my butt; I get a lot of compliments on it from friends and some guys/girls at the gym while I am working out. It’s flattering when a young woman comes up to ask how to tone her butt like me.

I like my smile, I get a lot of compliments on my smile and I think that’s what attracts most guys to me is that I smile all the time and that I am very friendly. I asked my last boyfriend what he noticed in me when he first saw me and he said my smile and my face.

I love my eyes; they are pretty and brown and the shape of my eyes are sort of like a cat but brown not green, they do change colors in the sun. My mom loves my eyes and my sister is jealous of my eyes, they are easy to look at it. The last boyfriend always said that he couldn’t stop looking into my eyes because they were stunning (very sweet of him).

I love my feet! They are cute and small perfect for my body since I am only 5’2" and having small feet works for me.

I love my hair! It’s very shiny, bouncy and I can wear it curly or straight! I get a lot of compliments from friends who say they want my hair and ask how I get to be so soft and shiny. I take very good care of my hair!

I like my stomach! It’s not perfect but you can see my abs which I love. I get a lot of looks when I am in a swimsuit. Just last week a girl was in the hot tub with me and she looked at me and then looked at herself and told her boy friend that she wants to look like me; so that was flattering to me. I gave her some tips on what she can do but I told her that she is beautiful the way she is.

I love my personality! I am very energetic but can also be very quiet. I tend to make others laugh or even make them smile. Just last night I went out to eat with a couple of friends an hour from my house and they said, "We have missed you; you always know how to make us smile just by looking at you." That made me feels good!
I like the fact that I am will strong to become an excellent pre-k teacher or even a middle school teacher once I graduate. I love to teach kids! I work at a fitness place in childcare back at school and I love it. I have been there for 4 years! My boss told me that I will make a wonderful wife/mom one day. My mom has always told me that ever since I was little I have always had a love for others and helping others and that teaching is the best choice for me as a career. Even my friends say that I will be a great teacher especially with little ones because of my friendly, caring personality.

I love my family! Even though my family consist of me, my older sister, mom, dad, my cat and my dog; I wouldn’t be where I am without all of them. They just don’t like that I have no self-esteem or confidence because they say that I am a beautiful young woman.

I love that I am very dedicated in getting to the gym almost every day; I am this way at school as well. I work out all the time and I love it! I have gotten some funny comments from some guys that say “do you ever stop.” I just say I have a goal and I am trying to reach it. Some of my friends say that "if you continue this you’re going to waste away (ha ha)." But I have the faith and the will to lose 10 pounds but it’s really hard when I have more muscle.

I like that I am easy to talk to and that I am here for anyone that needs a friend. This happens a lot at school when I see someone sad or in tears and just ask “are you okay?” even if I don’t know them. It hurts me to see someone like that so we would end up talking and I would let them know that if they ever need someone to talk too I am always around and that puts a smile on their face.

I like that I am different than most girls at school or different from most 23 year olds. I don’t go out drinking my life away. I do go out but it’s just to hang out without getting wasted. A lot of girls from my school try to drag me out but I just tell them that clubs and bars are not for me, they look at me like, wow, I wish I was like that. So that makes me feel good! A lot of guys respect that, at least my guy friends do.

I love that I have a great heart! I am very caring and romantic that I hardly ever get into fights or arguments with others because it’s hard to fight with someone who always carries a smile. That’s what my last boyfriend loved. He would always tell me that I was so different from other girls because I don’t give him restrictions in what he can and cannot do and that I never started a fight or argument and that I never nagged him, he loved that but he didn’t like my insecurities so that’s where the downfall comes in; other than that he liked everything about me.
