Injectable fillers for improving skin texture

How to use Sculptra?

We have been discussing in a multi-part article how you can improve your skin by using injectable fillers.  First, we discussed Botox, and then we discussed the broad category of dermal fillers.  In this part we will focus on Sculptra.  It is used to add facial volume. The results can last from 18 months to two years. It is used not only for wrinkles bit also to add volume to the face. It was approved by the FDA in 2004. It costs from $100 to $2,000 per treatment.

Polymethylmethacrylate is another product and some of the brands are PMMA, Artecoll and Artefill. It is the same material used to make hard contact lenses. At his time the FDA has indicated that it is safe for the correction of facial wrinkles and lines, but it has not been approved yet.

Sculptra™ was approved by the FDA for "restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency virus.  It was approved in Europe in 1999 to increase the volume of depressed areas, particularly for the correction of skin depression, including skin creases, wrinkles, folds, scars, and eye rings. In the USA at this time, it is not approved to treat wrinkles.  (Related:  How to prevent complications from injectables)

Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. Sculptra is a safe, synthetic, and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. It provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas. No skin testing is required.  (Related article: Minimally invasive plastic surgery)

Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) has been safely used outside the United States since 1999 in over 150,000 patients under the trade name New-Fill™. It is also used to treat wrinkles and skin folds in Mexico, Brazil and other countries.  (Related:  Revanesse)

The results from Sculptra are not immediate. Sculptra provides a gradual increase in skin thickness. Right after the treatment you will see immediate improvement, but this last only a few hours or days; the final results can be seen in a few weeks after the original treatment. Your doctor will decide if additional injections are needed. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effects.
