Dating Japanese women during Japan trip
Jonathan, an 18-year old American, is on a holiday in Japan and would like to go on a date with a Japanese girl. He asks, “How do Japanese girls feel about dating someone that is younger than them and if most Japanese women prefer, or get turned on when they find out the person they are dating is a Japanese-American that lives in America, who can speak both English and Japanese fluently. Or would they prefer a gaijin with curious views on Japan?”
The answer depends on how much older women you are looking at. If you are looking at someone in your age bracket, it should not be a problem at all. In any case, if I understand it right, you are only there for a short time and it is not meant to be a relationship — just a date. If you are looking to date mature women, yes, a very small group of married Japanese women take younger men as their secret lovers.
Being bilingual definitely helps since most Japanese speak very little English, and even the ones that do, find it convenient if the other person is fluent in Japanese. Personally I found that the better my Japanese became the more women I could date and my relationship became deeper and longer lasting. Of course Japan is such a complex society that no matter how fluent you become in the language there is always so much more to learn.
