Carla Bruni is polyamorous
Americans expect their president to be perfect, knowing fully well that they themselves are not. In fact Americans will almost always elect a president (though they rarely get it right since American politicians are smart enough to screw them) on how close he is to perfection in terms of family life, ethics, etc. even though Americans divorce 50% of the time, consume the largest amount of pornography in the world, and have all kinds of other vices.
French, on the other hand, are much more evolved. Mistresses are acceptable and being single or divorced is not even an issue.
That is why when French president Nicolas Sarkozy divorced, the sky did not fall in France. It was merely a topic for gossip. And they might as well get a First Lady with ideas that will scandalize Americans. She has said that “…love lasts a long time, but burning desire, two or three weeks.†In an interview with the Le Figaro Madame magazine she once said that she is monogamous from time to time, “But I prefer polygamy and polyandry.â€
