How to find work in Japan?

Antonio writes, “I am a Hispanic-American and learning how to speak Japanese to be able to go to Japan, and possibly even stay there for long periods of times. What are some good jobs for a foreigner? Teaching English? How is dating life for a non-shy guy? My background includes lots of sales experience in the auto industry. Teaching English is actually what I have in mind. By the time I finish school, my goal is to be fluent in Japanese. Being Hispanic, soccer is in my blood. I’m sure there will some sort of club to join? Well, looks; Imagine Antonio Banderas mixed with a soccer player, with 1/2 inch curly/spike hair and that will equal me….Do the girls know how to dance salsa?”

The easiest way to go there and find a job is to become a language teacher. Most jobs are for English but Spanish is also possible.

I think staying long term there may be somewhat difficult unless you find a steady job with a Japanese company. Most work visas are renewed each year.

If you have other skills, you might be able to find other jobs as well. It all depends on what your skills are but fluent Japanese is a must for such jobs.

I don’t know if you are interested in low end jobs like those in a factory or restaurant then basic language is probably fine.

Regarding dating, a lot depends on your looks and style. Japanese women love stylish, fashionable men. And if you are not shy you will have no problem, particularly if you speak even a little bit of Japanese. And as a Latino I know you must be romantic and that is a great plus in Japan.
