The landing on the Hudson River in New York City by US Airways Flight 1549 taught me many lessons. First of all, while I have flown hundreds of times I never realized that the emergency exits opened on the wings, and for a reason (you can literally walk to the wings from the plane). Of course, it is important to understand that it was great luck that no one died and no damage was done to public but the outcome would be very different if the accident had happened in the middle of an ocean on a transcontinental flight in the middle of the night. In other words, when you fly, be prepared for an emergency at all times. Here is an excellent collection of pictures from this remarkable event.
