Kanako Otsuji, Japanese lesbian politician
Gays in Japan are treated worse than they treat their disabled citizens. Now for the first time an openly lesbian candidate, Kanako Otsuji, is trying to represent the interests of this big, but not talked about, group in Japan. This is a country where the society simply closes its eyes to whatever it does not want to see, though gays and lesbians are now more open about their existence and can hold commitment ceremonies even though marriage or civil union is still not possible.
