I develop just one large website?"
Large websites are almost always
better
Regarding small vs large websites, different people can
have varying successes since there are so many
variables, but I have learned that having one massive
website is easy to manage and more profitable.
Regular updates for, say, a dozen websites, and then
getting links for them, updating
software,
etc. can be overwhelming. I believe that it is better to
add channels to a
popular domain than to
start a new website and that is why what started as
a
Japan focused website now has content as varied as
health,
drugs,
plastic
surgery, and
gossip.
Regarding microsites, honestly, I don't have enough data
to have an opinion but I think if I have to choose a
strategy of
making $100 from one site versus making $1 each from
100 websites, I will pick the first. I actually might
also say that larger
websites have more chances of being liked by search
engines and
attract natural linking. Those micro sites, I doubt
if someone likes them enough to link to them but if you
have a huge website people will come back and link to
them. Links to my website -- almost all of them are the
ones that I did not ask for. I also think that you can
proudly say that you are
founder
of large website that some people have heard of than
to say that you have a 100 one page websites about some
keywords that pay well with
AdSense.
The downside of having just one website is that if
something goes wrong with your website (blacklisted
by search engines, hacked by hackers, or problems at
the
hosting company, etc.) your whole business might be
in trouble while with a few websites your risk is spread
out. My sense is that if you develop a business using
the highest standards, there is no reason to worry
because almost all large companies have just one domain. |
