to an
awful man in an
arranged marriage, I have been
living under fear and pain. This was my
second marriage
and since I am from
India, I am so apprehensive
regarding another
divorce.
Indian society is still very
backward and
treats widows,
divorcees,
single moms,
gays, and
live-in couples harshly. After my
first divorce,
I hurriedly jumped into second
marriage because I didn't
want people to know me as a
divorcee. No surprise then
that without doing my due diligence, I
trusted a wrong
man. I think my husband is a
narcissist and
spousal
abuse for him just a way to get what he wants. He
mistreated me all the time I was with him and moreover
he has the unique ability to
fight over any issue. I can
never figure out over what and when he would be angry. He
tells me that I am so untrustworthy that I cannot be
allowed outside the house without him. I have,
therefore, decided to
move in with my mother and go
back
to school. Was this the right thing to do?"

It was a
great idea to
leave him and while he may want to reconcile
by promising to change or to tempt you through offers (it is
one of the defining attributes of narcissists), you will
need to be strong in resisting him. These narcissists know
very well
how to manipulate everyone
around them to get what they want. My sister in law is
married to one and our whole family feels so sorry for her
but she has been brainwashed to a point by my
brother in law that she has been
married for over
30 years now and does not even realize that she is basically
like a
maid and
toy for him. Don't let that happen to you. |
