Deep chemical peels

The strongest forum

In a four part analysis, we have been discussing chemical peels.  We have also discussed light chemical peels and medium strength chemical peels.  In this concluding section, we talk about high strength or deep chemical peels.

Traditionally these peelings have used a substance called phenol. These are the deepest type of peels and require some anesthesia. They may bleach the skin permanently, but they give very good and longer-lasting results. The “bleaching” of the skin is irreversible and looks unnatural. Some people have to use makeup to cover it after the treatment. They are not as common now because phenol is a toxic substance that may affect the heart, kidneys and other vital organs and doctors have better tools to obtain the same results, for example lasers.

The recovery time for these peelings can be several weeks. The cost can be from $2,000 to $5,000 dollars.

Risks

There are few risks if an experienced professional does the peeling. These are some of the potential risks: skin discoloration and uneven tone, infections, scars, loss of sensitivity and burning sensation on the skin.
