writes, "My brother was just released from the hospital
and he was in there with pneumonia. He is now out and
being
prescribed with many medications. Is there any
danger taking these medications? I myself don't
trust medications and so is my brother. He's
confused by them and what
vitamins should be taken. What other sources are out
there for me to find out what to do?"
While
I am no
medical professional and very reluctant to answer
the question (I strongly encourage you to follow your
doctor's advice because this is a life/death matter),
all I can do is share my personal opinion. Like you
guys, I am also very
skeptical
of modern medicine. I know some of them work and
others
provide symptomatic relief, but in general, as an
example, I will never
take a pill or eat a certain cereal to
lower my cholesterol. I will just
change my diet and get on the treadmill. On the
other hand, if he was in the hospital, then at this time
he may not have much of a choice with the medication he
is taking so that he can recover fully before he embarks
on a more
natural healing lifestyle.
What
I recommend is that whatever
prescription medicine he is taking you read all the
fine print on the website of those drugs to understand
the
side effects. Also find out what do those pills
really do. If the same result can be achieved by
diet and exercise or some other non-medicine way,
try that. It is almost always a good idea to get a
second or third opinion from a medical professional (you
cannot
blindly trust your doctor because most of them are
in bed with pharmaceutical companies or are simply
overworked to pay enough attention to their patients).
While there is enormous information on the web, it is
not trustworthy because most people like me are not
medical professionals or are pushing their own
treatments, whether it is vitamins or supplements or
some other magic remedy. |
