Pamela
writes, "I am actually involved in a very
complex relationship. I am a 31 year old female
and he is a 23 year old
military man, been to
Iraq twice and is
suffering from post traumatic
stress disorder (PTSD). At times he is
so loving
and then he is completely absent; it's like he
is two different people. He
talks to his exes,
has nightmares about them, tells me I'm his
mother's age, and I am not sure if I can endure
it all. I love him very much to the point he's
been there with me through situations you
wouldn't believe. But I am floating during the
highs but yet I'm trying to survive the lows.

| You
are in a very difficult situation and so is your
boyfriend. As you are probably aware, many vets
are going through a very difficult period. From
what I understand, the
Military does have some
support systems to deal with PTSD and to the
extent possible please make sure that he uses
them, even though it means being patient since
the resources are overstretched.
In addition to that, please educate his family
and friends about his situation so that they can
be more supportive during this period. I think
time and
love can change any man. So if you are
patient with him, give him love, and let him
work with a counselor, he will be alright. |
