Eyelash extensions

Easier to have than you think

While you might be thinking about smoky eyes or even eyes by Thermage, there is something else that is popular: semi-permanent eyelash extensions. Some of the celebrities that have used them are Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Kimberly Stewart, Paris Hilton, Gwen Stefani, Lindsey Lohan, Angela Basset and Regina King. "I feel like I’m wearing fairy lashes!" said Daryl Hannah (pictured below on the right as she gets ready for her treatment), a longtime admirer, when raving about the Xtreme Lashes™ Eyelash Extensions she wore for a Golden Globes event.  (Related:  How to use eyelash extensions)

With more than 100 different lash extension colors, thicknesses and lengths in their repertoire, Xtreme Lashes™ takes between one and three hours, depending on the skill level of the technician and how many extensions are desired. Highlight colors are typically intermixed with natural lash colors and look completely natural with just a hint of color throughout. The application procedure is painless. Clients recline comfortably with their eyes closed during the entire procedure (see the picture on the left below with Dania Ramirez getting hers). Most clients fall asleep at the day spa during the procedure.

Touch-ups are usually done for a fraction of this, depending on how many extensions need to be added. Eyelash extensions are great for special occasions or for everyday wear.  (Related:  Celebrities with eyelash extensions)

An alternative to eyelash extensions is an eyelash transplant. It uses the "plug and sew" techniques used to treat baldness in men. A small incision is made at the back of your scalp to get a few hair follicles and then these are sewn onto your eyelids. And believe it or not, you do not need to be under general anesthesia. The cost for both eyes is about $5,000 to $6,000 depending on location.
