Hot
fashion trends
So
what do women like?
By Eimi Graham
Now the question is "What's hot in
fashion in Japan?" I'm going to talk about the
fall and winter fashion
that's hot these days. It is so hard for me to live in Japan and
not notice how fast fashion changes in Japan despite the economy being
slow. It appears that the fashion industry is immune from any
economic events. (Related:

Fake leather
|
|
|
Now for a country that is the largest market for genuine leather
designer products and
practically keeps such companies as Louis
Vuitton, Fendi, and
Chanel in
business, it would be hard to imagine using fake
leather. But that is
exactly what is going on - Clothes that are made of fake leather are really
popular these days. Fake leather items are not just jackets any more. Fake
leather skirts, boots, shirts, etc. are also popular. There are a few
reasons why many women here prefer fake leather than real leather. First, fake
leather is cheaper than real leather (now this is the only area you see the
economic impact). Second, fake leather comes in more colors
(like red, navy blue, white, orange, light green, etc. - something that is very
important to the Japanese who are quite conscious about color
coordination). Third, some women say that fake leather looks better than real leather. |
Animal prints
Also, animal prints are still popular, but they have
changed a little. Typical animal prints used to be just leopard
prints,
but now, there are animal prints that are snake prints and
zebra
prints.
It appears that the Japanese market is going really wild.

Pantyhose/Stockings
Colored stockings and fishnet stockings will be in
the stores during the fall and winter season. Until a couple of years
ago, the color of fishnet stockings was usually
black. Now this is where the rest of the world still is. While
fishnet stockings have made appearance in some other parts of the world, they
continue to be primarily black, beige, blue, brown, or any of the most
conservative colors. Additionally, MYNIPPON.com research has shown that
most women have either one or two pairs reserved for a special moment - a party
or an intimate night. In Japan,
on the other hand, other colors like purple, red, navy blue are also hot.
I have also occasionally seen some multi-color stockings that are unique to
Japan and look really good on teenagers hanging out in Shibuya and Harajuku.
Lingerie
It appears that this fall in Japan, you'll probably see more
dark
colors in lingerie. Designs like animal prints and black/dark
purple
colors are all over the place. This is also a change from the predominance of pink
lingerie in Japan for years. Even if the women can't really show their
lingerie as they did during the summer times in this season, still many women
choose their lingerie carefully. (Related article: Japanese

This is essentially a reconfirmation of the attention that Japanese pay to
their dresses including their underwear. Like a lot of women in Europe,
Japanese women take their lingerie very seriously - they wear not only for that
someone important in their lives but also for their own pleasure. (Related:

Boots
Boots are getting even hotter these days. The heels are still high, but
the chunky heels aren't really popular. The boot's heels are about the
same as the chunky platforms, but the difference is that the heels look like a
typical high heel, but is higher. In Japan, we call them
"pin-heels."
Many young women say that it is still cool like the
chunky heels, but it looks better. (Related:

As you see, the Japanese fashion is getting sexier and more feminine
these days, even in the fall and winter. The word which I think that is perfect
for Japanese fashion is a song by TLC. (Related:
