tips for office holiday party
What
not to wear?
Summary:
Parties (particularly around the holidays) and
other informal events present some challenges when
it comes to style. What should you
wear? What is not appropriate? What
outfit can get you into trouble? How to
avoid becoming the topic of discussion the day
after? (Related:

in Tulsa,
Oklahoma, writes, "My company is
organizing a
holiday party this month. While we
have no strict dress code in the office, the invitation
for the party suggested the
dress code as formal.
Do you have any style tips for the
party? I love
to dress up but am afraid that I might look out of
place." (Related:
How to organize your life) An office holiday party is part of
your work
Just
because the event is being held beyond office hours and
away from the office premises does not mean that it is
like being at a local nightclub on your own. When organized
and paid for by the company (no matter where it is
held), you are bound by all the rules that the company
has, and for all practical purposes, you are in the
office. So the first rule to remember is that do
not do anything that you would not do in the
office. Here are a few other style tips for
getting ready for the holiday party:
|
- It is a good idea to dress up for
the party (after all it is a party and a great way
to socialize with your colleagues), but be
conservative. The day after, you don't want to
be remembered for your dress. Trust me, this
is a great piece of advice. What I mean here
is that
wear an elegant dress that will make you
look great but will not attract any undue
attention. So don't expose too much or wear
anything sheer
or too short. And don't forget the
Shapewear.
- Keep it understated. Whether
it be jewelry or
makeup or
accessories, select it in
a way that it enhances your beauty but
does not
stand out.
- Dress according to the program for
the party. For instance, if you will be able
to dance after the
party, make sure that you wear
shoes that allow you to do so. If there is a
long cocktail hour prior to the party and you may
have to stand for an hour or so, wear some
comfortable shoes or wear your
sandals with
Dainty Footings. Is there a likelihood that
you may be required to sit on a stage for any
reason? Then don't wear a short
dress.
Tips on behavior during the office
party
It
is a good idea to have some fun and be a bit more
relaxed than you are at work, but don't go
overboard. You can be accused of inappropriate
behavior and
punished accordingly by HR. To make
sure that you are always in control, limit the number of
drinks that you have. I
follow a simple
rule: One glass of wine (Which
wine should I buy?). There are other
places to get drunk. The office holiday party is
also not the place to show that you have a
crush on the
guy down the hall or to
show appreciation for what your
boss has done for you. Just wish everyone Happy
Holidays, eat some delicious food,
but keep it in moderation, and go home. If
you are going to dance, keep it
simple and
elegant. If there are going to be spouses, keep
the introductions formal. Recommended
