Shopping
at Zara stores
Tips
and advice on how to buy the stuff that suits you
If
you have never heard about Zara, you are not alone. I
actually read about Zara in a business publication first and
then got a chance to visit their store on Fifth Avenue in New
York City almost three years later. Since Zara sells
clothing for both women and men, this article is designed
for both. And I have shopped extensively at the Zara
store in
New York City. (Related article: Shopping

Zara, whose first store was opened in 1975 in A Coruņa (Spain), is present in 47 countries with a network of more than 600 stores situated in privileged locations in large cities.
So that is not a lot of stores yet. But it is good to
know about Zara since we believe that Zara is the place to
shop for the sophisticated, elegant, yet trendy woman, who
does not want to spend the kind of money that she needs to
at Saks Fifth Avenue but might find that H&M is,
well, for everyone.
What makes Zara fashion
so unique?
As every woman
knows, there is no such thing as permanent fashion.
Fashion means change and we are talking about changes that are
literally live. So what makes Zara unique is the fact
that it is one company that understands it so well that new
items arrive at the stores twice a week.
So when you go there, you know that you can buy the latest
fashion. If it was in
Paris or Milan or Tokyo on the
runway, it is in stores pretty quickly.

The other thing
that I like about Zara are the prices. H&M is one of my favorite stores and I have no embarrassment
in saying that I love the bargains there. But shopping
at H&M is like going to Target - it's cool, but again,
since everyone shops there, it is hard to be different. Zara, on the other hand, for only
modestly higher prices, provides you great quality and designs
that you will still be able to look unique and
different. You won't find that the guy or the girl
sitting next to you on the train or in a restaurant is wearing something that you saw at Zara.
How to shop at Zara?
- During your first trip to any store
specializing in fashion, it is best to take the time to
get familiar with it. So look around first and check
out what they offer. They carry a broad range of
clothing (though no hosiery, lingerie, and
very few accessories)
that fit a Cosmopolitan woman. The same applies for
men too.
- The sales staff is friendly, polite, but
not pushy or intrusive. Being at Zara reminded me of
shopping at a department store in Japan. The staff
is there to help but you don't feel the pressure to buy.
- Mix and match. Zara specializes in
clothing that is standalone so you don't have to buy a
matching piece. But that allows you to find several
pieces and then mix and match as you like.
