We all understand that a
slim
look is more desirable and women have done whatever
they can to make that happen.
In the 19th century, the corset (Designer
Cesar de la Parra is reviving the use of corsets) was
the garment of choice, though available only to the
elites. In the early decades of the 20th century, the
girdles became popular and were almost always used by
women during the daytime under their clothes. Then came
the
pantyhose that changed everything. Recently,
shapewear
has also become popular to give a slimming effect without
the inconvenience and bulk of corsets and girdles. Now
companies like Lee are designing
jeans
that produce a slimming profile, particularly by
minimizing the tummy, a major concern for most women.
Lee Trend Expert Rachelle Moley offers these tips on
how to
look slimmer:
- Accentuate the positive. Add a
unique belt to draw attention to a
small waistline.
Consider pants with flap pockets or that are angled
slightly to add shape to the rear view.
- Think long and lean. Choose pant
styles in dark washes and clean finishes to create a
longer, leaner silhouette. Choose a heel that makes
jeans come within 1/2" of skimming the floor to make
legs appear longer. (Related:

- Be true to yourself. Buy the
size pant you are, not the size you intend to be. A
clean, slimming look can't be achieved when your garment
is too small.
