Creative writing as a way to organize thoughts
Story a woman who goes on a quest to find a man of her dreams after she is 30

By Nancy Ryder

While my parents were gone, I also got a lot of free time. For several days in a row, I was the queen of the house. I could practically do what I wanted. While admitting that I lived in a very safe part of the world and the neighbors are actually neighbors, I was considered responsible enough by my parents to manage the household during their absence. That is when I learned the organizational skills that come very handy in my current job.

Those quiet days by myself were instrumental in shaping my personality. I acquired a taste in reading since I could not stand the torture of watching daytime television programs. Since I did not have many friends who shared my passion for reading Leo Tolstoy and Bertrand Russell, I took to creative writing as well. Whatever I wanted to share with someone, I started jotting it down. I would go back to these notes many months later and have another conversation with myself to discuss how I have changed during that period.

Creative writing completely changed my perspective on life.  If it were not for being able to write well, I would not be able to produce this online diary.  Writing allowed me to talk to 'someone' when no one was around to appreciate what I was thinking or saying.  It is a great way to develop a friendship with yourself.

My parents never objected to having my friends over. My mother was particularly fond of meeting new people because she would ask them questions about their lives and what they liked. She had an agenda for these discussions but she also had a genuine interest in knowing what was happening in their lives.

When I would be alone, I would always have people at my house. On most occasions these were marathon academic sessions – we had to work very hard in school and I enjoyed the company of others while trying to solve differential equations or imagining how the Mesopotamians cooked their meals.

I did not limit myself to mental adventures alone. I also came to be known as an organizer of theme parties, something that we enjoyed tremendously. I would pick the theme and everyone was expected to dress up in a costume of their choice based on that theme, then while demonstrating their costume, explain the symbolism of each item of clothing, and depending on the costume, even do a short gig. Well, there are dozens of similar stories that made even my so-called countryside life so interesting. The reason my life continued to be wholesome and full of excitement was that I actively sought adventure.
