| Summary: It is tempting
for Americans in Japan to gravitate towards Roppongi or
other neighborhoods in Tokyo (and whole of Japan for
that matter) where most Americans hang out and women who
like them do too. However if you are one of those
Americans who go to Japan not to meet semi-Japanese but
real Japanese women, check out my tips below:

David
writes, "I am based at the
US military base outside Tokyo and I would like to
meet with Japanese girls. The reason I haven't yet
tried
Roppongi or
gaijin bars is because I heard that the quality of
the girls there is pretty low, that they are not the
most
attractive girls, and the only reason they're
interested in foreigners is because they haven't
had
great luck with
Japanese
guys. Is there any truth to this? I'm in
Osaka now, so am happy to try the HUB, Sam and
Dave's, etc. Just hope I can meet a
cute girl."
I
personally never liked Roppongi or gaijin bars because
they do not attract
real Japanese girls. The ones that go there have
already been with
gaijins or have lived in US/Europe or are just
highly Americanized
girls who look for hookups. The reason many of my
American friends went there was that they were
either new to the country or simply did not have the
desire to
learn Japanese. They found comfort interacting with
English speaking Japanese. People like me who spoke
fairly good Japanese were fine
dating regular Japanese who were far more authentic
and fun to hang out with because there was so much more
to learn from them about
Japanese society and
culture.

I suggest
Roppongi and other gaijin hangouts just to expand your
social circle so that eventually you will be invited to
interact with more women. I don't think that these girls are
inherently unlucky with
Japanese dudes; actually, they have been frustrated with
them because they have their own preferences and many
westernized Japanese women abhor those. They find
foreigners to be far more respectful and fun.
So be
patient and always a gentleman. I hope you are living long
enough in Japan because if you are persistent and get the
hang of things, everything will work out for you. |
