Algerian desserts in ParisA whole new way of eating sweets
Date: 06/18/2008
As you might know, France has many immigrants from Africa, particularly from Algeria and Morocco. And they create some of the most exotic sweets. As you can see in this picture, this is the display in one of these shops. I wish I knew their names.

This world-famous pastry shop has shops and restaurants all over Paris and their desserts are so pretty that you don't feel like eating them but once you start eating, you can't stop eating.

I took pictures of these cakes and pastries in the windows of Dalloyau and Laduree. They look like works of art and it seems like a sin to eat them.
Fauchon Le Maki De CrabeCrab maki rolls from Fauchon

By the way, maki rolls are Japanese. Apparently the French have adopted them and Fauchon makes some of the most delicate crab maki rolls being advertised here in their window. It also goes very well with French wine.
Fauchon ParisA must destination to eat, admire, and shop for food

Fauchon is a beautiful shop known for its gourmet food. It sells all kinds of food, but as a tourist I bought breads and pastries there and purchased some marmalades and chocolates to bring home. There is a small dining area where you can grab a quick bite from their eclectic collection of dishes, particularly desserts and lunch dishes. There is a restaurant as well. Mind you it is a very expensive place but worth every Euro.
Laduree restaurantPerfect for a Parisian meal

Laduree restaurant in Paris is a landmark. The restaurants look tiny but by the long lines outside you know they are popular. They are extremely expensive and that is why it is better to go for desserts and drinks rather than a meal. You will fall in love with these restaurants, particularly the Marie Antoninette tea and macarons.
MacaronsEnjoy one bite at a time

If you have not eaten the macarons at Laduree you have not been to Paris. Choose from an assortment and it is better to eat them inside the restaurant rather than do a takeout. Nothing tastes the same in takeout. Yes, the lines at Ladure and Dalloyau may be long but worth the wait.

Fortunately I stayed at the Citadines hotel in Bastille and it comes with full kitchen and refrigerator. The first thing we did was to rush to stock up on wine and cheese from Monoprix. The prices are incredibly low for wine, cheese, and bread in France. Here is the selection from Fauchon.
