In Japan it is common to add ornaments to the purses or cell phones. For some reason the cell phone accessories in the shape of foods especially sweet foods are in fashion.  You can find cupcakes, candies, cocktails, chocolates etc.

There are so many accessories it is crazy, the good news is this way you can have sweets and not consume any calories.

Modern origami

This traditional Japanese craft has become almost an art, and many creative people have expanded the concept to use it in many other ways.  In Japan origami is mostly used as a craft for kids.  Most of the innovation in Origami does not come from Japan, in fact most is from the USA.

These are some of the interesting books that I have come across:

1- Girligami with girly designs
2-  Sexy origami.  There a few books on this topic, they include instructions to make figures of breasts, butts etc.
3- Toilet paper origami.  To make origami with the ends of the paper rolls.
4- Many books on napkin folding that I am not sure are origami.

Tokidoki, Japanese inspiration

Tokidoki is one of my favorite families of characters.  It mixes kawaii and edgy styles beautifully creating unique characters.  Tokidoki is not Japanese; it is an Italian and American brand with Japanese style.  The story of Tokidoki is very interesting:

“Tokidoki means sometimes in Japanese, I chose a Japanese word because I love Japan.  I love everything from the ultra modern happy face of Shibuya to the serious magic silence of Kyoto…”  Simone Legno

Simone Legno is the Italian creator of Tokidoki.  Tokidoki has been very successful. The franchise includes collaborations with the super icon Hello Kitty and many other well-established brands.  I share with you some of my favorites Tokidoki pictures.

Egg Shaper

Charabento, bento o caraben has become very big in Japan.  Charaben is the “art” to created designs in lunches, usually the lunches that kids bring to school.  There many tools to enhance the plain look of food so kids will find it attractive and eat it (hopefully).  Among the tools to decorate the food are the egg shapers, take a look to the pics.

The egg shapers are easy to use.  When the eggs are boiled, they need to be peel immediately and put them in the mold, close the mold and after a few minutes they acquire the shape of the egg shaper.  There are many, many designs including Hello Kitty of course.  You can see more egg shapers in the link below.

Kawai designs in LA

I found these cute accessories in Shanalogic.com.  A geisha inspired belt and mirror, earbuds in kawai style and a cute pendant.  I love kawai stuff, I do not use it in clothes and I am careful not to overload with accessories, but I find it really charming.
