Lolitas in Manhattan

During my recent trip to the Kikokuniya bookstore in Bryant Park, as we were exiting, I was surprised to see three girls dressed as Lolitas walk into the cafe. We chatted withthem and took the picture shown. They like to dress like a Lolita once in a whileand go with their unique dresses (I guess) around the city. They think thereare about 50 Lolitas in New York and the number is growing.

One of the Lolitas that I spoke to has already been to Japan (and shopped at stores in Harajuku and Shibuya) and they told us that they love to dress like that.

Recently I went to the new Kinokuniya bookstore in Manhattan (in the Bryant park area). Kinokuniya is a large Japanese bookstore that carries books in Japanese and English titles about Japan and Asia. I love this place because I lived in Japan for a while and it brings memories of that time. It is like a little Tokyo in Manhattan.

I did not find my favorite Japanese magazines (they where all sold out) Oggi and Classy, but I was surprised that the magazines were cheaper (despite the falling dollar) here than their now closed Rockefeller Center location. Besides that, the café is fabulous. It serves great desserts and high quality coffee. It is not crowded as so many other cafes are in Manhattan. Take a look at the dessert my husband and I shared.

Welcome to my blog

CaviarKonnichiwa!

Welcome to my blog in which I plan to talk about cool things in Japan or things that are Japan related. I lived in Japan for a while and I love many things from Japan. Ai=love and mono=things, that is how I came out with this name.

Although not a perfect world Japan has many unique aspects and I am fascinated by them. If you live in Japan and would like to contribute feel free to send emails. I hope you enjoy your visit to this blog.
