The Christmas cake is a tradition in Japan. Obviously Japan does not celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday. Most Japanese are not Christian, in fact most of them are pretty secular, but the merchants could not pass such as great opportunity to sell more so Christmas is celebrated.
In any case the Christmas cake is a nice tradition, they are beautifully decorated. While Jesus is not a symbol of Christmas Santa is and his figure is part of the cakes decoration. As a Christian it hurts me, but that is the culture. I like the Christmas cake and I am hoping to eat one of them this year.
