Fashion week is going on in Tokyo as we speak, it takes place from March 23 to 28.  Fashion week is a relative new thing in Tokyo this is the 7th Fashion week only.   About 37 designers will present their collections including:

Motonari Ono

The collections are ready to wear and it is as in other places it is not open to the public.

Among the attractions there was a robot model, this is Japan after all.  The robot walk the runway during the Shinmai show, which is a show for emerging talent.  One of the collections at least included the traditional kimonos.  These kimonos have some denim on them, but they look very traditional.

The difficult financial situation has also affected the fashions in Tokyo and the buyers are looking for lower prices. After all sales have declined in high-end department stores and for expensive brands.

Japan fashion week does not generate the same buzz as the big events in New York, Milan or Paris, but it is promising and Japan has a lot of talent and a big market.

According to WWD “the clothes have been interesting, including a vast assortment of delicate dresses, structured outerwear and innovative knits.”   I will bring you more pics next week, you can also visit: WWD and Japan Fashion Week
