The Lolita style is serious business in Japan.  I am starting to see this trend pick up outside Japan as well, particularly in Asia, but I was lucky enough to photograph a few Lolitas in New York City as well.  Japanese teenagers will spend hundreds of dollars on their outfit and then spend hours applying makeup and putting on their dresses.  Then it is time to go to Harajuku or Shibuya to hang out with others who enjoy role play or costume play (cospurey).  These are girls at a Lolita convention in Tokyo; trust me, these are humans and not robots or dolls.
