Angels & Demons movie review

If you enjoyed the Da Vinci Code movie you will enjoy this one too, simply because both Dan Brown and Ron Howard are master storytellers.  Unlike when I saw the Da Vinci Code, this time I read the book first and watched the movie later (as much as I enjoy reading and movies, I don’t always do it chronologically or even do both).  Obviously, there are some differences between the two (if you are an atheist like me and have no clue about a lot of Catholic mythology,  or if you are new to nuclear physics, reading the book first is a good idea since you will have a lot more context).  What is common in both is a juicy concoction of facts, myths, legends, and pure fiction to create an entertaining film.

Professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is called on by The Vatican to interpret the symbols that accompany threats to The Vatican from the Illuminati, a group of scientists that was supposedly active during the time the Catholic Church was notoriously fighting a battle with science.  The group has now stolen a canister containing highly explosive anti-matter from CERN and hidden it under The Vatican and kidnapped four cardinals (preferiti or the ones most likely to succeed the Pope) who will be killed as the conclave to elect the next Pope commences.

Langdon’s ally is Vittoria Vetra (played by Ayelet Zurer, whom I loved in the movie Munich), a CERN scientist whose father was murdered by Illuminati to steal the anti-matter, which was created by this father-daughter team.  But it turns out that Illuminati did not exist after all and the murder of the Pope and those of the cardinals was an inside job planned at the highest level.

Strongly recommended for fans of thrillers.
