Blue Ginger Wellesley review

When I first moved to the Boston area 10 years ago, Blue Ginger was in such high demand that they told me that you had a plan at least three months ahead to get a place to eat.  Since I rarely plan my meals even for the next week, I never bothered to eat there even though we heard great feedback from friends and colleagues.

Finally, my wife and I managed to go there for lunch and getting a spot was easy.  Actually you can literally just show up these days.  I ordered stir fried Yakisoba, Ramen Noodles and garlic-ginger-Tamari sauce served with carrot, bell pepper, onion, cabbage and scallions.  I chose shrimp as my protein source.  Lorena ordered Blue Ginger fish tacos with warm tortillas, black bean salsa and avocado cream.

The ambiance is minimalistic Asian but it is not tacky.  The service staff is attentive but not pushy.  While I thought that food was excellent (though my noodles could have been easily found in any inexpensive restaurant in Japan at half the price but I am aware that here in America this is the best I can get) my wife thought that Rosa Mexicano has better tacos.  She commented that she was a bit disappointed; maybe Ming Tsai raised her expectations too high.

Still, I recommend it as a great place to have an awesome meal with some very innovative dishes.  It reminded me of eating at fine restaurants in Los Angeles like Katsuya or Gonpachi.
