Precious movie review

Photo of the actress Gabouray Sidebe as Claireece Precious JonesThose of us who are fortunate enough to be blessed with loving parents and family, excellent education, awesome jobs, and memorable vacations to exotic destinations, life is beautiful.  Many of us even are capable of making charitable contributions to public radio or American Red Cross or veterans whoever else comes calling, without having any idea what life is like for so many people.

If like me you have no direct experience of poverty, abuse, and tragedy, this is a must-watch film.  It is a terribly sad movie, so forget being entertained, but must be watched to appreciate that there is an America that we do not even know exists, as we lose sleep over Cius or iPad, Paris or Tokyo, Bulgari or Ferre, and why are Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston together.

The movie is about a pregnant teen and single mom Claireece “Precious” Jones (played so well by Gabourey Sidibe) who is abused by her mother Mary Lee Johnston (played by award-winning Mo’Nique) and her father, but with the help of social workers, teachers, and others in the community, she is able to make a fresh start in life.  Truly inspirational story.
