While I have never played the video game of the same name, Prince of Persia The Sands of Time is a highly entertaining movie, without being outstanding in any way. Since I like fantasy films, this was fun to watch, even though it is not something that you will remember even a few months later because everything is essentially mediocre. I had watched it after a party at our house with a bunch of guests of all ages, so it is a film that appeals to people of all ages, though, the violence maybe disturbing to some very young kids, who have not been exposed to violent video games yet.
Jake Gyllenhaal plays Dastan, an orphan who becomes a prince in Persia when he is spotted for his bravery by the king. When combined with family rivalries and an unnecessary war, there is the usual intrigue you will see in any film based around royalty, but the real plot involves a dagger that makes time travel possible. Unfortunately, like anything so magical and powerful, it must be brought to its secure hiding place with the help of Princess Tamina (played by Gemma Arterton), who is the only one to know how to bring it there securely. After a lot of action, that goal is accomplished. Recommended as an action film good for family viewing.
