My Favorite Season movie review

Image from the French cinema Favorite SeasonsMy Favorite Season (Ma saison préférée) is a movie that reminded so much of Kabei, an emotional tale of a mother and her children.  It is a film that is a must watch for all of us who are old enough to realize our responsibilities towards are elderly parents and often fail to do more than a stellar job because we are either too busy making money (or putting food on the table) or just too absorbed in our own little lives while our aging parents become lonelier as they approach their death.

Berthe (Marthe Villalonga) is one such mother who has raised Emilie (Catherine Deneuve), an attorney and Antoine (Daniel Auteuil), a neurosurgeon, but both of them still fail in their duties to be there for their mother who suffers from a brain disease.  Obviously, both of them struggle with the decision (Antoine lives in a tiny place while Emilie is separated from husband) and force her to move into a home for the elderly, which she hates.  Like any other family, each member has issues with the other but the turn of events leads them to confront them and talk about them like grownups.  While the sad death of their mother was somewhat untimely, they do come closer as a brother and sister.  Recommended for anyone who enjoys French cinema and likes the thought provoking themes.
