This is officially a romantic comedy, but unfortunately, there is mostly romance, and practically no comedy. The very lovely Cameron Diaz (Amanda) acting goofy does not count. Actually, Amanda has just learned that her boyfriend has made love to another woman. She is devastated, especially with Christmas round the corner, and decides to go online to see what she can do. After fumbling with Google, she runs into another heartbroken woman in England, Iris (Kate Winslet), who has also found that her so-called boyfriend is marrying someone else. Just to get out of their depressing worlds, they decide to exchange their homes. Amanda ends up in snowed out English countryside, while Iris comes to sunny Los Angeles.
In new places, they both meet new people. Amanda meets a widower Graham (Jude Law), brother of Iris; and Iris meets Miles (Jack Black), who has also found out that his girlfriend is seeing another man, while he was in love with her. For the New Year, they all end up in Amanda’s country home and are happy to celebrate the new year with people they love. Not the greatest movie and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you truly enjoy romantic comedies.
