How to set New Year resolutions?

Pamper yourself and enjoy life

While we all know that most New Year resolutions have a very short life, we do manage to accomplish one or two if we put our hearts and soul into them. That is why I recommend that you have two sets of goals. In the first set are just one or two goals and you should call them your “primary goals.” In other words, you must really want something and must have the commitment to accomplish them. For instance, if you want to learn a new skill that will help in getting a promotion or a new job, that would fit into that category. In the second category, you can put those goals that are wishes at this point. You may want to put some effort into them but are not sure how you will get there. For instance, if you want to learn Spanish or if you want to drive across Europe, you can put such wishes in this category.

But what about New Year Resolutions that we all should have?

Develop a positive attitude and body image. Therefore, decide to talk to yourself positively. And one simple way to do this is to say three good things for every negative thing. Let me tell you a little story. When I was a consultant, I would visit many companies and meet with their mangers. And as soon as I would ask how they could improve their business, the bitching would start. I would spend 10 minutes in any conference room and I would have the same experience every time. Then I implemented a simple trick. I would tell these folks that they were free to criticize anything they wanted but they have to say one good thing about it. Believe me or not, but in 10 minutes, everyone across the table would learn so many good things about their own company that they never bothered to notice before. And my task became easier. I would tell them that their CEO would fix the bad things but they should now focus on taking all the good things and turn them into new opportunities. You can do the same with your life. You will realize that you have so many good things but you are not just noticing them.

But why don’t we do that much for ourselves and our bodies? So resolve to have massages, facials, manicure, pedicures, etc. as often as you can afford. They are worth it. If you cannot go to a spa, you can try to do many spa treatments yourself or with your girlfriends at home.

Belong to a group. You can join a hobby group (for instance, cooking, books, hiking, etc.) or help out at a charity organization. Not only will you learn something new you will also expand your network of friends.

Stimulate your mind. Learn something that is difficult. Play a tough game. Try solving puzzles. That way your mind will stay sharp.

Please your soul. Find some time for yourself and spend it anyway you like – prayer, meditation, or just enjoying the silence. You will feel the inner peace.
