Fear has robbed a lot of people of their dreams and hopes and has made many
get stuck in certain situations for a long time. I believe that fear is an obstacle or an impediment to get or receive that which you long for or the gift of life that you don’t know you have had all along. We all have a measure of faith in us (like we have faith that the chair we are offered to sit on will not fall) that is enough to drive out the fear that is standing in our way. It will only go away if you will stand up to it and am afraid that is the only way to overcome fear is by facing it. What you don’t face, you cannot overcome. Instead it will rule your life and be your master for a long time to come until you stand up to it.
Sometimes you may manage to run away for a while from that which you fear but a day will come when a situation will arise and that which you fear will confront you and there will be no way of escape. So better you deal with it now and take over the ‘wheel’ of your life and become the driver. |
It is always amazing that in this life, good things tend to come out of us when we overcome an obstacle. In my readings, I have discovered that heroes or people that have made impact in the world had to overcome their fears. The more I observe life around me, I have discovered that it has a pattern in which it flows - it’s amazing. For instance, the negative aspects of life make certain people search for answers and that keeps them occupied. On the other hand, others choose to live with the negatives and they remain stagnant. So for what happens to us is primarily what we choose to do with our lives, that is, either accept fear or fight it with our faith believing that there is a solution.
Let me give you situations of how destructive fear can be. A relative’s health was not so good for a while. He worried so much but never wanted to go to the hospital. He dreaded seeing doctors or having anything to do with medical examinations but he bought medicines over the counter to relieve the pain but to no avail, as he was treating an illness that he may not have even had. Some days he was alright and other days he was not. One day, he received an acceptance letter to attend a university in the UK to do his masters. In order to get a visa, the British embassy advised that one of the requirements was to undergo a medical examination at their clinic. You can imagine the panic and
social anxiety that he had to go through. He had to make a choice: abandon the opportunity of a good education or to go for the medicals. It was hard but he was brave enough to make an intelligent decision.
The medical results were not too good: Blood pressure was high, he had ulcers, and reproductive tissue failure. However, he was treated and got cured and is now studying in the UK. The chances of ever having a child are slim though he could have avoided this if he had acted earlier. Next
