How to plan a staycation?

I want to have a great time without feeling like a loser

Summary:  A staycation is essentially a vacation but instead of going some place else you spend time at home.  Below I give tips on how to do everything that you have come to expect from a vacation right in your home at one tenth the cost.  Plus, you do not have to feel bad that you are not some place else.

Sofia writes, "Due to leisure budget constraints, we are not planning on going somewhere on a vacation and have decided to make each other happy through a stacation. I don't how to get started to make it a memorable time for me and my husband. Please give me some ideas."

The first thing you have to think about is food because nothing defines a vacation more than food. I would say that if you enjoy cooking, then, without getting too complicated, try to cook meals that you otherwise don't. I recommend recipes from magazines like Every Day With Rachael Ray (she has these 30-minuted meals that even an idiot like me can cool) or Real Simple. Obviously, you want to eat out a few times, and you can go to restaurants that you have not tried yet. If you search on the web, you can find coupons for most restaurants and eat at cheaper levels. Since you will be on vacation you would not have problem eating on Tuesday nights rather than the weekends.

The second most important thing about a stay-cation is rest and relaxation. So just don't follow a schedule and you can make it a relaxing time by taking baths (try some candles and bath salts if you are into that kind of stuff) instead of plain showers. You can also do other fun and relaxing activities together like watching movies or reading or painting or doing crafts together (I particularly like making scrapbooks of your previous trips) or whatever else you both enjoy.

The third thing that I associate with vacations is intimacy. So I suggest that you make some sex happen. Some lingerie, massage oils, and whatever else you two enjoy will help in having a great time in bed.

And finally, develop a list of things to do outside the house. You will be amazed how many fun things you can do, often for free or at very low cost, right around the area you live. Hiking, window shopping, meeting friends you have not seen for a while, art galleries, theater, shows, concerts, talks, etc.
