Guaranteed settlement amount in Vioxx litigation
Since the recall of Vioxx, several companies have offered advances against settlements from Merck. While the offer was somewhat risky for consumers (they would have had to return the complete amount along with interest if no compensation was received), it was a reasonable offer for those seriously hurt by Vioxx and needed money for their medical bills.
Now a law firm in Ohio, Lawrence Landskroner & Associates, is offering a guaranteed minimum payment of $75,000 to victims in Poland, according to Radio Polonia. This amount appears to be very small compared to over $26 million that Ms. Carol Ernst will receive. Only 50,000 people are reported to have taken the drug there and an estimated 80 people have been injured.
Poles are as addicted to prescription medicines as Americans are. According to statistics, 40% of people in Poland visit a pharmacy at least once.
