Andrea writes, "I am in high school and two months ago my BF broke up with me. I am really depressed and unable to concentrate on anything. I want him back in my life. He gave me the reason that someone in our school is telling everything to his parents and they do not approve of our relationship. He also says that right now it is not the age to go against our parents. We had been together for two and a half years. He says he loves me but cannot come back to me. All my friends suggest me to leave him and move on. I am in a big dilemma as to what to do now. I really want him back in my life. It's not at all easy to forget someone who was your soulmate for so long. For me this is really very painful. Sometimes I feel that he still loves me a lot and sometimes I feel that he has no feelings for me now. Please suggest me as to what to do so as to get him back in my life and that too in the same way as he used to be before breakup. I wanna be with him only. I love him a lot. I need someone to help me regarding our patch up again."

I can totally understand why you are heartbroken. However, here are a few things to consider.

Since you both are not adults yet, it may be impossible for your boyfriend to do much without his parents' permission. If his parents oppose this friendship, he does not have much choice till he is financially independent. What that means is that if your love for each other is real, then you can be together as soon as he can tell his parents to get lost.

As a grownup I can tell you that what seems like the end of the world during teenage years isn't. Yes, breakups are painful at any age, but we all manage to move on, find love again, and forget about our past relationships. I still think of my past girlfriends but I am totally happy with my wife right now despite several heartbreaks previously.

You cannot force anyone to love you or come back to you. If he loves as much as you think he does, then just relax. Some day you can still be together but as long as you are in school, you must both obey what your parents tell you (and for all we know, since they have more wisdom than you, you might be dating a loser).

Since it seems unlikely that you two can be together right now, it is better for you date a guy who is not totally controlled by his parents and has some freedom to pick his friends. Chances are that you will find love again and everything will be alright. In any case, you will always have the possibility that this guy will come back to you some day. If not, at least, during the time you will have an opportunity to check out what else is out there in the world.
