Was podcasting just a hype?

Research by Pew shows that not many people are listening to podcasts regularly. Just 1% of people say that they download a podcast on a typical day. That is very disappointing and simply means that podcasting will remain a niche despite the growth it saw from lower iPod prices. As iVideo becomes more popular, hopefully podcasts will become more interesting and more people might decide to join the fun - but are we reaching a point where we have too much content?

And just to confess, while I am technologically sophisticated, I don't download podcasts - I just don't have the time to listen.
