It is well known that plastic surgery in Colombia is a way of life as it is in Venezuela or Brazil. Recently a soap opera called Sin Tetas no hay Paraiso (Without Breasts, There's No Paradise) has become extremely popular even beating Betty La Fea (now being shown in the US as Ugly Betty). The story revolves around how plastic surgery may be the only option for some women to get out of poverty.

According to the latest survey by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, 20% of Americans hope to go under the knife at some point. Jeff Knezovich, executive vice president of the (AACS), which sponsored the survey, told Reuters Health that the topic has become a "dinner table conversation."
