How to fight friends making rumors?

Nancy writes, "Rumors^.^ they aren't pretty. So when one flew around of me I was shocked. Who would have that much grudge on me to say rumors about me and say they are 100 percent true? My terrible ex-friends thought they were true, and because of that I lost 3 friends. I think they don't have much fun in their lives if they are believing in them and telling others it's true.All I wanna do is to shut them up and let the whole thing die.
