I have been generally very supportive of relationships with massive age gaps because every day I hear from my readers who are in blissful relationships despite big age differences. Like any relationship, they do have their set of challenges, but as long as the basic goal of a relationship is finding happiness together remains, there is no reason why age should matter.
Obviously, my recommendation has been based on anecdotal experience, but research published in the Review of Economics and Statistics says that couples with vast age gaps earn less and may have lower IQ. I am definite that they did not interview Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher who used to be married for many years.
Is this study serious? So let us review the science here before you dump your mature girlfriend or boy toy. Basically what the researchers found is that girls who marry much older men do so not because they have fallen in love with them but because the pool of men available to them was smaller due to their lack of college education or because they lived in smaller communities. Similarly, younger guys dating cougars were those who did not succeed as much in life on their own and chose to marry an older woman who was already more financially stable. If these two scenarios do not apply to you, then just relax, and go celebrate your love without the age gap in mind.
