Japanese new year celebration

Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu

Despite the fact that Japan has a somewhat different calendar, Japanese people still celebrate the western new year.  And another irony is that in a country where people do not necessarily consider themselves religious in the same way as say evangelical Christians do, the shrines are packed around the new year.  The photo below is an art creation by Japanese students studying at Showa Boston - the US campus of the university.  On the right side you see messages posted by students on the board.  (Related:  Cheers bar Boston)
