What causes big male breasts?
Gynecomastia, or enlarged male breasts or more commonly referred to as moobs, are not so common but are seen in some men, particularly as obesity among men has increased. It is not yet completely understood what causes this, but Gregory David Albert, M.D., a board certified plastic surgeon, has a theory. He thinks that they can be caused by steroid based oral or topical supplements. In other words, guys hoping to get that Spiderman body might end up looking feminine. Ouch!
The surgery is simple: liposuction or direct surgical excision depending on the kind of excess breast tissue that is present. At the same time Dr. Albert is encouraging the public to be extra cautious with supplements and vitamins they put in their body. “Just because you can get some of these supplements without a prescription doesn’t mean they are safe to take,” he says.
