Botox Black box warning

When I think of black box warnings I think of killer drugs like Vioxx, Celebrex, and Bextra. Guess what? Now the anti-wrinkle dermal filler Botox has the same warning.

So should you stop using Botox?

Talk to your plastic surgeon but this warning basically means that Botox is not like getting your nails done at the nail salon. Botox has the potential to spread from the injection site to distant parts of the body — with the risk of serious difficulties, like problems with swallowing or breathing.

F.D.A. has approved Botox to treat crossed eyes, eyelid spasms, severe underarm sweating, cervical dystonia, and frown lines. That is why more and more people are using this filler and risks have become known. 16 people are dead and another 180 have been seriously injured by Botox.
