Why do breasts sag?

Miranda, who is only 21, writes, “I wonder why my chest is going down? Can you tell me some reasons? I am in good shape and have a proportionate figure.”
The main reason breasts go down is that the force of gravity is simply too powerful. Breasts are unique part of the body because they have no bones or even cartilage to hold them. It is all muscle and fat — in other words, nothing to support them on their own.
Wearing a nice bra with good support is our only defense against gravity but no one can fight the force of gravity completely. Eventually the breasts sag even for a girl who started to wear a bra the day she got her breasts. Obviously with good care, the sagging is minimal, but it can become more pronounced among women after breastfeeding and frequent changes in weight. At that point an option is to have a procedure called breast lift.
